According to a study conducted by John-Dylan Haynes, a neuroscientist at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, Germany,
your brain makes up it's mind 10 seconds before you know it.
Researchers were able to predict the choice that people made before they made it themselves. The researchers took #brain scans of test subjects that had two buttons to press, one on the left and one on the right. They were asked to press one of the buttons when they showed a letter on the screen in front of them.
Scientists were able to predict the decision of which button to press up to 7 seconds before they pressed the button.
The signal that the subconscious sends before ever consciously making the decision comes from the frontopolar cortex which is located at the front of the brain, directly behind the forehead.
So does this call into question the concept of "free will"? Researchers concluded that because the test subjects were choosing between just 2 things the results do not pertain to every single decision that we make.
“We think our decisions are conscious, but these data show that consciousness is just the tip of the iceberg,”
The brain is the most powerful thing in the universe and we are still only beginning to understand it.
We utilize everything we know about the brain in order to give meaning and purpose behind every action we take. Whether it is the wording and design on a #resume, or a new social media marketing campaign, we create content that is meant for the brain and not just the conscious one!
